What’s New in Granada: Culture, Heritage & City Changes
A visitor-first guide to what has opened, what is happening now, what is coming next, and what is not ready to plan around.
Granada is adding new cultural layers — without replacing the city you came to see.
The Alhambra, Albaicín, Cathedral and Granada’s tapas culture remain the framework. The change is in the extra ways you can understand the city’s history, art and living culture.
Right now, two additions stand out: the new Espacio Amazigh at Carmen de los Porcel and the new Centro Fundación Unicaja Granada in the historic Rey Soler building.
The useful distinction is simple: open now, coming soon, and still being developed.
Two new cultural stops are already open
Espacio Amazigh
A new cultural space dedicated to Amazigh heritage and its connections with al-Andalus.
Opened in June 2026, the Espacio Amazigh brings together 189 pieces, including jewellery, ceramics, textiles and objects from everyday life, alongside audiovisual material. The Patronato describes it as the first European cultural centre dedicated entirely to the research, interpretation and promotion of Amazigh heritage.

Centro Fundación Unicaja Granada
A new cultural centre in a rehabilitated historic building, right in the central San Matías area.
The centre opened on September 17, 2026 in the historic Rey Soler building. Its opening programme includes La sombra de Goya en el Museo Lázaro Galdiano and the immersive Los sentidos de Andalucía.

September adds a temporary cultural rhythm
These are date-bound experiences, not permanent “new attractions”. Plan around the programme only if the dates fit your trip.

Festival Flamenco Homenaje a Nino Granada
The city’s official agenda lists the festival at Teatro Municipal Isabel la Católica from September 18 to October 8, 2026. Use it as an evening anchor rather than something to squeeze into a packed monument day.

Festival de Cine Flamenco de Granada
The official city agenda lists the festival from September 20 to September 26 at Teatro Municipal Isabel la Católica. On September 22 it is happening now; after September 26 it should no longer be presented as a current event.

Los sentidos de Andalucía
The immersive experience at Centro Fundación Unicaja Granada runs through January 31, 2027. It is free with prior registration, with passes every 30 minutes for groups of 12.

A temporary exhibition at Centro José Guerrero, useful if you want a contemporary-art layer after the historic core.
Heritage projects are coming — without opening dates yet
Granada Cathedral tower visitor project
A project is being developed to make previously inaccessible tower spaces part of a future visitor experience, with interpretation and multimedia elements. There is no confirmed public opening date in the information currently available.
Generalife garden restoration
The Alhambra has announced work to recover a Generalife garden that has been closed to the public since 2018. The project points to a future addition, but no visitor opening date is given on the current official information.
Important changes that are not sightseeing stops
The Alhambra digital twin
Useful technology for conservation and management, but not a new attraction to book.
Alcázar del Genil surroundings
Public-space and visitor improvements add a new layer around an existing heritage site; they do not replace the Alhambra.
Bus network changes
Check current routes for practical movement around Granada, but do not treat network changes as a new visitor district.
Let the new layer deepen the classic Granada trip
First time in Granada?
Keep the Alhambra, Albaicín, Cathedral and historic centre at the centre of the trip. The new spaces are additions, not replacements.
Returning visitor?
Add Espacio Amazigh and Centro Fundación Unicaja as a cultural layer. They offer context beyond the standard monument sequence.
Have a timed Alhambra day?
Do not automatically add Espacio Amazigh afterwards. If energy is low, move it to another morning or weekend visit.
Tapas are the evening rhythm, not another checklist.
Granada does not need a new restaurant attraction to feel current. Its tapas culture is already one of the city’s strongest living experiences. Let dinner slow the day down instead of adding another timed stop.
The classics still define the visit
Granada’s new layer works because the old one remains powerful. Use new openings to deepen the story, not to replace the places that brought you here.

- Alhambra ticket: do not assume it includes Espacio Amazigh; the official General ticket’s included list does not name the exhibition.
- Events: verify the exact performance or exhibition date before building your evening around it.
- Future projects: do not present the Cathedral tower or closed Generalife garden as open until official visitor information confirms it.
